Ask the exact venue to confirm the current rules
Licences, policies and approval processes vary by venue, event and emirate. Put the answers and responsible party in writing.
- Confirm licensed alcohol service, outside suppliers, décor restrictions, entertainment approvals, sound limits and privacy needs.
- For an outdoor or farmhouse event, verify lawful event use, safety responsibilities and a named weather backup.
UAE wedding rules are not identical at every venue or in every emirate. A hotel’s licence, venue policy, event type, entertainment and location can all affect what is allowed. The safest approach is to ask the venue to confirm each important point in writing for your exact event.

Alcohol: ask about the exact venue and event
Do not assume alcohol can be served because it is available elsewhere in the same emirate. Ask whether the specific venue is licensed, whether service is limited to its own bars or packages, what age and identification controls apply, and whether outside alcohol or corkage is permitted.
For a mixed-faith or culturally sensitive event, also decide whether service will be visible, restricted to a separate area or omitted. Put the agreed service hours, brands, quantities, package, last order and responsible-contact process in the contract.
Décor and production restrictions
Before approving a design, ask about:
- ceiling rigging and approved rigging contractors;
- floor, wall and landscaping protection;
- open flames, candles, smoke, haze and pyrotechnics;
- confetti, petals, sand, water and hanging installations;
- electrical loads, generators and cabling;
- build height, emergency exits and fire access;
- delivery vehicles, loading bays and setup times; and
- removal deadlines, waste and damage deposits.
The decorator should visit the actual space and work from the venue’s current technical rules.
Entertainment, music and event permissions
Live performers, DJs, amplified sound and public-facing entertainment may trigger venue or authority approvals. Who submits the application varies, so the contract should name the responsible party, documents, cost and deadline.
For example, Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism operates an Events Licensing System. Its published wedding circular places registration and performer-permit responsibilities on relevant venue owners under the Abu Dhabi process. Do not assume that procedure applies unchanged in Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah or another emirate—ask the local venue and authority.
Privacy, photography and cultural requirements
Couples may need women-only areas, screened access, separate entrances, phone restrictions, security or limits on supplier staff. Discuss these needs before the site visit and record who will enforce them.
Tell the photographer and content team which rituals or guests must not be filmed or posted. Venue permission to photograph does not replace the couple’s or guests’ privacy instructions.
Catering and menu changes
Confirm whether outside catering is accepted, which cuisines and dietary standards the kitchen can deliver, how allergies are managed and how many menu revisions follow the tasting. If halal preparation, vegetarian separation or a specific cultural kitchen is essential, write the requirement into the final menu and contract.
Outdoor weddings and farmhouse events
Private property or a farmhouse is not automatically exempt from event, safety, catering, noise or alcohol rules. Ask who owns or controls the site, whether events are permitted, which suppliers may enter and what approvals apply.
Every outdoor plan needs a real weather backup with sufficient capacity, power and guest access. Confirm the move decision time and cost in writing.

Questions couples ask
Can every UAE wedding venue serve alcohol?
No. Ask whether the exact venue and event space is licensed, which service and identification rules apply, and whether the agreement permits outside alcohol or corkage.
Who obtains entertainment or event permits?
Responsibility varies by venue and emirate. The contract should name who applies, which documents are needed, the deadline, the fee and what happens if approval is refused.
